Women and non-binary people in mathematics: Opportunities for the future

From 10th November 2020 to 11th November 2020

Online

Compass is proud to collaborate on the annual Women and non-binary people in mathematics: Opportunities for the future, this year taking place online Tuesday 10 November- Wednesday 11 November.

The aim of the event is to encourage final year undergraduates and taught postgraduates in the mathematical sciences (including physics and computer science) to consider PhD study and careers in research. It is particularly aimed at female or non-binary applicants, who are significantly under-represented in mathematics at present.

The event will include talks by eminent female researchers at different career stages in academia and industry, as well as talks by current PhD students describing their experiences and what doing a PhD is like. There will also be plenty of small-group discussions and opportunities to ask questions and address concerns.

The speakers for this year’s event are Laura Ciobanu (Heriot-Watt University), Silvia Chiappa (Google DeepMind) and Henna Koivusalo (University of Bristol).
